Calm, sunny, and warm day

We spent the day on the sunny side of Red Lake Peak, near and above treeline, and didn't see any signs of instability through our departure at 3pm. Although surface snow on the most direct sunny aspects was moist to wet, we didn't see any wet loose activity and roller balls were minimal. Indirect sunny aspects remained dry at the surface. This made for challenging skiing conditions, with wet snow and dry snow within the same run. Winds were calm to light, and we saw no current wind transport.

In places where there was cold wind blown snow, cracks propagated a few feet from my skis. I checked under the very thin wind slab and found small facets. We also dug a few profiles in wind loaded terrain, and the wind slab was only 4-6 inches thick. Snowpack tests didn't indicate instability.
