Cold and windy at Carson Pass

Very cold day at Carson Pass, with brisk NW winds moving snow and creating reactive wind slabs. No avalanches observed, but we saw shooting cracks on multiple wind loaded features. Mitt pits and hand shears after triggering the shooting cracks revealed easy and clean results on low density snow from Saturday's storm, up to 8" deep. We avoided more wind loaded terrain where it's likely some of the wind slabs were deeper. Although we could still find buried SH and facets down 1.5-2' from the surface, formal snowpack tests in multiple locations did not indicate instability. Snowfall observed in the afternoon with highly variable rates.
