Powderhouse

I toured at Powderhouse starting at 3:20 pm. It was chilly, in the 20’s, throughout the tour which ended at 5:20 pm. New snow varied all the way up. At the bottom, 2-3 inches new; in the middle at 8500 feet, 4-5 inches; at the top, 2 inches in places and 0 in others. A light wind was blowing from the SE at the top. The ridge top had definitely seen some wind activity but not strong winds since yesterday's snowfall (see pic). There was still light snow to transport in places, whereas in other places, it was bulletproof.

The descent was interesting. The top third consisted of somewhat heavy dust on breakable crust or chunder. The open areas were the worst. I think the wind variably scoured the slopes then some light snow fell on top, and the current winds haven’t taken the light snow away – yet. Starting at about 8500 feet down to the bottom, there was light unconsolidated powder snow, which was very enjoyable; the best snow was on lower angled terrain.
