Snow Obs on Incline Peak

Went to Incline Peak this morning in search of wind and storm slab instabilities. We observed about a foot and a half of new snow at the trailhead. Closer to treeline the new snow total was closer to 3 feet. As we toured up we observed a denser layer in the middle of the storm snow. Above treeline, the snow had a higher density and there were places where deep wind-drifted snow was present. We found evidence of small natural cornice collapses on the ridgeline. The cornices were reactive. On our ski down we found our first evidence of storm slab instability. We noticed cracking and some movement, the cracking went down to the denser layer that we had observed on the tour up. The winds had recently shifted from the NE before this instability was observed and it is possible that this was enough to stiffen the storm slab making it become more reactive.
