Storm day riding at Spooner

Deeper new snow than expected at Spooner/Kingsbury, with 2ft since Tuesday in several but not all places we rode today. Winds were variable in direction and produced unusual drift patterns, which made for difficult riding under poor viz, so we stuck with wind sheltered trees as much as possible. Whenever we did get into wind drifted snow, cracking indicated wind instabilities. On wind sheltered terrain, snow remained unconsolidated, with no signs of storm slab instabilities using formal and informal tests. On a few steeper slopes, we triggered sluffs that ran downhill but did not fan out. 

I went to a similar aspect and elevation where the other day I found recently buried near crust facets (due E at 8800ft), and found a similar weak layer with about 2ft of recent snow above it. As with the other day, ECTs did not propagate - though today I saw partial propagation.
