Signs of Instability on Peak 7720'

We toured around in the Martis Peak West area today.  Just over a foot of new snow existed at the trailhead with mostly sunny skies and beautiful conditions.  We chose this location today due to the avalanche hazard and mostly forgiving terrain this area has to offer.  Numerous signs of instability were encountered on our tour.  A potential natural avalanche occurred on a small rollover during the storm yesterday and was mostly covered up-this was in some of the steeper terrain in the area and we did not get closer to investigate.  We felt multiple whumpfing sounds and collapses while breaking trail through this terrain.  Digging down below the recent storm snow showed a rain crust with lighter less dense snow below where the buried surface hoar layer existed along with some near surface facets.  Further testing showed propagation with an ECT on the buried surface hoar layer.  The new storm snow was light and low density and did not show many slab characteristics with little cracking at this point.
