Strong winds and sharp crust

We reached our observation location around 12:30pm, snow had just begun to fall along with moderate winds with strong gusts. The surface crust was much thinner than expected around 1cm or less, and easily breakable. We dug a profile around 1 meter deep to get below the 1/11 storm layer.  We performed two CT's that produced sudden planer results around 30cm down, however two ECT's did not propagate. This layer seems to be a density change within the 1/11 storm snow. No other instabilities were observed on this layer. On our way back to the trail head around 3:15pm there was drifted snow from the wind, snowfall rates seemed to intensify and between 2-4 inches had already fallen.
