Stronge East winds On Carson Range.

      Toured out on the eastside of the Carson Range today. On the way out we could really feel the winds pickup out of the East as we neared the ridge line. Banners were observed off of Job's Sister and Freel Peak. There was around 4-6 inches of new snow within this area. At the ridge line there was medium sized overhanging cornices, I found a safe area and jumped on one of the cornices and got it to release. It was very soft in nature and did not propagate far. I moved down slope and dug a pit on a E aspect @ 8900' on a 30degree slope.  There was just over 330cms of snow at this location. The top 120cm of snow pack was right side up with 40cms of light density snow on the surface. I started with some shovel tilt test but it produced no results as the top layers just broke apart. I moved to compression test and had a few CTNs but with Q2-Q3 results. I looked within these results for buried surface hoar but did not identify it, only well preserved precipitation particles within the areas of failure. As we moved down slope snow was pretty consistent until we rode on to some of the more south facing slopes, you could feel the heavier density change and some moist snow had started to form. As we entered into a drainage we could see come debris piles from loose dry avalanches from a group that skied this area just before us. The debris piles ran down the gut for a few hundred feet. As we continued down in elevation one member of our party unintentionally trigger two avalanches on two separate turns on a convex roll over that appeared to be storm slab release. The slab caused some additional loose dry to snow to accumulate as it traveled downhill. The slough pile was slow moving but carried a couple hundred feet down slope. We moved to more low angle terrain on the rest of the way down from there.
