Dry Snow and Variable Riding Conditions

Observed 6” dry snow in parking lot at 9am.

Winds were light and increased throughout the day. Temps stayed cold.  Winds shifted in afternoon to East.  We observed blowing snow in the afternoon across ridges and exposed slopes.

Observed multiple loose dry avalanches, where intentionally triggered on steep test slopes.

Observed no natural avalanche activity.

Saw minimal cracking on small wind drifts.

While riding encountered dry surface snow on varied old snow, with deep areas in protected terrain.

Variable riding conditions exist with blower light snow on hardpack in old wind effected and solar aspects.
