Observations from Tragedy Springs

1.5-2ft of storm snow above the rain crust observed from Tragedy Springs today, on NW/N/NE/E aspects. Much less new snow on other aspects. No signs of instability observed today. I did multiple ECTs on wind loaded slopes without propagation, and we hit numerous steep test slopes without results. I could still see the texture of a density change in the storm snow and find it with shovel tilts, but that was it. The graupel layer appeared to be bonding well with the rain crust - it was more dense than the newer snow above it, and hand shears did not slide easily nor were they planar. I couldn't find intact buried surface hoar in this area. Sunshine was strong, and even low angle N aspects were getting warm on the surface in the afternoon.
