More detailed information about the avalanche:

I triggered a slide yesterday on the Proletariat an E facing slope in the Mt Rose area. When we started skinning it was hailing a bit but quickly turned to warm sun. We got off our skis a few times to see if we were sinking in the snow but only went a few inches down. I did a ski cut across the top and maybe a 10 foot section slid, then cut the rest of the slope and the whole slope went under where I cut. The avalanche spread out away from my skis and cracked. Maybe 30-40 feet wide on the second cut and it ran for about 200 yards. We ended up hiking back down a safe ridge and at that point we were sinking in very deep.

Photo 1: Here you can see where I did my second, larger ski cut. Lookers left is the first and smaller cut.

Photo 2: From the top, ski area visible in background. First ski cut.

Video shows the very end of the slide.
