Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Sunny with partially clear skies in the morning with increasing cloud cover by midday.  Above freezing temps at the Slide Mountain sensor last night, radiational cooling probably acounted  for some limited refreezing of the snowpack last night.  4'' of soft moist snow existed on all solar aspects up to 9600' in this area.  This snow is slightly cooler on more shaded NE-NW aspects and also upper windward SW aspects but still had soft ski pen on these snow surfaces.  The increasing cloud cover and SW winds limited the midday solar radiation and kept the wet snow instabilities to a minimum.  No natural wet snow instabilities observed today.  Skier triggering was common in steeper terrain with roller ball and loose snow avalanches.  This activity was limited to the top 4'' of moist, sticky, surface snow.  Below this surface snow was a 4-6'' firm melt freeze crust, pencil hard, that was very strong and showing no signs of weakness at this location and time.
