Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Crust sandwich looked ugly when excavating pit, but proved strong and stable.

Warm new snow less than 1cm of accumulation. Widespread breakable melt-freeze surface crust 7cm thick in areas traveled on NE-E-SE-S aspects below 8,400'. Above 8,400' the crust became thinner and limited to sun exposed areas before dissipating at 8,700'. Natural and human triggered roller balls were falling off of trees and rolling off ski turns. The crust with less than 1 cm of snow cover allowed for roller balls to travel long distances but did not grow to larger than 10cm in diameter.
