More detailed information about the snowpack: 

There was widespread whumpfing while we were skinning below treeline.  We dug a snowpit at 7600' on a south facing 30 degree slope.  There appeared to be 24" of new snow from this storm cycle.  The December 2nd and 12th layers were visible in the snowpit.  Compression test caused failure first at 8" within the new snow and then at the December 12 layer.
