More detailed information about the snowpack: 

Pit dug to look at near surface facets. This layer is most prevalent on wind protected NW-N-NE aspects below 7,600' that held significant cold air during the recent prolonged period of air temperature inversion. At this time this layer is not problematic as there is no overlying slab. New snow deposition over the next week may provide a slab on top of this weak layer and warrants monitoring.
