Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Snow conditions in Deep Creek varied from strong icy crusts at the lower elevations, to some surface hoar on top of soft snow in drainages and low elevation meadows, to soft unconsolidated snow on the upper elevation north aspects, to wind scoured surfaces, to breakable crusts, to full depth facets. Above 7600 ft, snow coverage improved near the Sierra Crest with snow depths between 20 and 65 cm. The Dec. 7th facet layer still exists in the bottom third of the snowpack, but observations today showed a great deal of variability and uncertainty surrounding snowpack stability. Some tests indicated that fractures can still travel along this layer and other tests show more stable results. For the first time since 12/7/13, no skier triggered collapsing or cracking occurred in this area today.
