Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Well established melt-freeze conditions existed in nearly all areas traveled on NW-N-NE-E-SE aspects between 6,900' and 8,800'. Isolated areas of wind packed snow unaffected by melt-freeze existed on N aspects above 8,500'. Up to 3 inches of wet surface snow existed on top of P to K hard melt-freeze crust on E aspects at 7,800' at noon.

An isolated glide crack was observed in Desolation Wilderness around 1 mile west of Crag Lake on an ENE aspect at approximately 7,900', age unknown. No other evidence of current wet snow instability was observed.

Photo: NW aspect approach. Areas below 7,200' that held continuous snow cover 6 days ago are now very patchy.
