Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack: 

Snowpit tests revealed better than expected stability on the lower density of layer of rounds and rounding facets at the base of the recent storm snow. This was the weak layer in two human triggered avalanches on Feb 7 and Feb 8 on nearby slopes of similar aspect and elevation.

Settlement of around 10 cm (4 inches) was visible on settlement cones around trees on northerly aspects in the area (photo 1).

Rapid warming was occurring with lots of snow melt dripping and falling off of trees on all aspects. The snow surface on all but the most heavily shaded true N aspects all the way up to the summit at 9,760' in this area held 4 to 10 cm (2 to 4 inches) of wet surface snow by 12:30 pm. Roller balls were observed on the E aspect Slab Cliffs at 11 am (photo 2). A few skier triggered pin wheels up to 30 cm (12 inches) in diameter were noted on Incline Lake Peak at 8,800' on a shaded NE aspect at 12:30 pm. Otherwise, signs of surface wet snow instability remained minimal up until departure from the area at 1:45 pm.
