More detailed information about the snowpack:

A strong overnight snow surface refreeze occurred in this area last night. On E-SE-S aspects traveled between 8,500' and 9,400', P to K hard melt freeze crust composed the top 15 to 18 cm of the snowpack at 9:30 am. At 10:45 am, 2 to 4 cm of wet surface snow existed on top of the thick residual melt-freeze crust with conditions remaining very supportable. Based on the rate of snow surface melt, it seemed likely that conditions would remain supportable into the afternoon hours.

Snow surface conditions were a mix of well established melt-freeze on E-SE-S-SW aspects and colder snow, unaffected by melt freeze on northerly aspects traveled.

Photo: 16 cm of overnight refreeze near noted lat/long at 9:40 am.
