More detailed information about the snowpack:

Sunny skies during the morning hours with 100% cloud cover (photo) filling in around noon and snow showers starting by 1:30 pm. Rapid warming during the morning hours was most notable below 7,800' with dripping trees. Once cloud cover moved overhead, the snow surface on E-SE-S aspects rapidly formed a thin (1-2cm) 4F hard breakable sun crust. On N-NE aspects, surface snow remained unaffected by warming above 8,000', but became increasingly wet on the snow surface below 8,000'.

SW winds began increasing around 11 am with plums of blowing snow visible on the summit of Dick's Peak. On the summit of Jakes, 15 to 30 cm of unconsolidated surface snow was available for wind transport this afternoon and tonight.

A few roller balls up to one foot in diameter were noted on the SE aspect of Secret Peak (adjacent to Jakes) and on the south side of Jakes in the Emerald Bay Chutes.
