More detailed information about the snowpack:

Snowpack height (HS) at pass level (6,700') measured ~60 cm (2 feet) and increased to 60 to 90 cm (2 to 3 feet) above 7,000'. The snowpack was supportable for travel on skis, keeping one above the rocks, etc at ground level. On N aspects in this area, the high point of Lincoln Ridge at ~7,800' was too low for any significant faceting above basal ice. This is due to the fact that the precipitation that fell on this area in mid Oct and early Nov was rain. The vast majority of the snowpack was created in late Nov.

Evidence of previous wind transport was widespread both above and below treeline in areas above ~7,600'. Some stiff wind slabs existed in wind exposed areas. No signs of instability were observed in either informal observations or snowpit data.

Photos 1 & 2 - Sastrugi indicating previous wind transport, covered in surface hoar, indicating that winds had gone calm during the early morning hours in this area.

Photo 3 - Settlement of recent storm snow.
