These observations document past conditions at a small and variable scale. They are not to be confused with an avalanche forecast. They come from a variety of sources. We can only vouch for the quality of those produced by the SAC forecasters and professional observers.

Carson Pass Area 		Great riding conditions in between tree bombs. We found more open and higher elevation cold slopes that weren't ruined by them I took dozens of photos like this today, across several miles of drainages, and only found the occasional feathery surface hoar crystal in the lower density layer just below the surface There were still areas with surface hoar on the surface, but it was already laying down and decomposing in the warm weather Professional Observer

Donner Summit Area 		Breakable melt-freeze crusts on southerly aspects in the morning. These soften and got wet after 1 pm. Wind affected snow near the ridgeline. Small surface hoar buried under a dusting of snow. It was moist by midday. The snow was moist and easily clumped together by midday. This is the same snow from the previous photo after I squeezed it in my hand. Ski cuts triggered roller balls and small pinwheels on a NW aspect at 7000 ft at 1pm. Forecaster

Examining buried 12 mm SH in the avalanche start zones of Polaris Point (snowpit location). Skier triggered rollerballs on a N aspect at 7,500'. Another old flank and crown from Dec 11.
