These observations document past conditions at a small and variable scale. They are not to be confused with an avalanche forecast. They come from a variety of sources. We can only vouch for the quality of those produced by the SAC forecasters and professional observers.

Slide appeared to start close to the ridge Small newly formed cornices easily breaking on the way up. 3x3 foot 4 inch deep wind slab breaking, near cornice photo, on the ascent. Echo Summit Area 		Lovely day in the on the ridge. Warm in the sun, but well below freezing in the shade. The new snow was mostly uncohesive, but did show a little slab characteristics. Mount Rose Area 		Small inconsequential cracking on a wind-loaded test slope. The shiny track in front of my ski is not the track of a giant snow snail, but rather surface hoar that collapsed as a small cornice piece slide down the slope. 4 to 8 mm surface hoar was present on most open slopes at all elevations.
