These observations document past conditions at a small and variable scale. They are not to be confused with an avalanche forecast. They come from a variety of sources. We can only vouch for the quality of those produced by the SAC forecasters and professional observers.

Mount Rose Area 		Large cornices along summit ridge. Note the cracked settlement cones on the trees. One of at least a half dozen storm slab avalanches that occurred in this area on March 22. Mount Rose Area 		Viewing the avalanche on the far east ridge of Tamarack from the Proleteriat Debris pile at the base of the avalanche. Smaller cornice pieces dropped onto a wind-loaded test slope. These did not trigger any cracking or wind slab failures. Some skier triggered cracking on a wind-loaded test slope. Forecaster

Luther Pass Area (including Job and Freel) 		Most trees above 8200 feet showed significant signs of settlement. Above treeline the wind had compacted the new snow and made it very dense and slabby. Small cornices were impressively strong. No significant cracking or propagation observed. Wind affected snow below treeline (but nearing summit ridge). Professional Observer

West Shore Area 		Supportable crust 6,500' to 7,150'. Crust giving way to unconsolidated storm snow at 7,500'. Signs of 2 to 3 inches of storm snow settlement around trees. Natural avalalanche, very fresh looking. Likely triggered by cornince fall earlier this morning. 1 of 2 similar avalanches in this cliff area. Blowing snow on summit ridge. Intentional cornince collapse produced no results. Forecaster
