Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack: 

The snowpack depth in this area on N-NE aspects increased significantly above about 7,500', similar to what has been noted in other areas. Snow depths of 60cm to 70cm were common above 7,800'. The existing snowpack in this area is a weak mix of facets and crusts. Propagating failures were noted in snowpit tests within a layer of near crust facets, just below the storm snow from Dec 3 and on top of the upper most crust. Surface hoar existed in the larger open areas below treeline measuring 4 to 9mm in size. This snowpack does provide a supportable base where depth is 30cm or more, but it is weak and not in good condition to handle new snow loading. Multiple weak layers exist and the surface hoar will almost certainly be buried by new snowfall tonight. This may allow for future avalanche activity in low angle below treeline terrain.
