These observations document past conditions at a small and variable scale. They are not to be confused with an avalanche forecast. They come from a variety of sources. We can only vouch for the quality of those produced by the SAC forecasters and professional observers.

Shooting cracks in a wind loaded test slope just above tree line. Only about 4 inches of new snow below tree line at around noon. Over a foot of snow in a somewhat wind loaded zone just above tree line. Temps were close to freezing and my jacket and pants became wet despite wintry snow. Professional Observer
