More detailed information about the snowpack:

Snow surface conditions were a mix of wind effect, crusts and unconsolidated snow on shaded aspects.  Solar aspects were mostly transitional with some spring like snow on south aspects.  Travel was generally good but getting thin on many aspects.  This area has a shallower snowpack than other areas in the Mt. Rose region but formal and informal observations all pointed to a stable snowpack.

Photo#1:  2-3mm surface hoar at most elevations and aspects in this area.

Photo#2:  Coverage on south aspects at 8900'.

Photo#3/#4:  Conditions off of Relay Ridge into Mt. Rose Wilderness.

Photo#5:  Wind scoured and unconsolidated snow in the steeper chutes.
