These observations document past conditions at a small and variable scale. They are not to be confused with an avalanche forecast. They come from a variety of sources. We can only vouch for the quality of those produced by the SAC forecasters and professional observers.

Snowpack Observation
Fireplug and Mt. Rose

Mount Rose Area
Morning cover at around 10:00 am. Variable snow surface conditions with soft snow, wind affected snow, and firm surfaces existed on N aspects. Clouds dissipated during the middle of the day. Ski cuts triggered small roller balls and pinwheels on sunny S facing slopes between noon and 1 pm. We probed in 30-40 locations on this shading north facing terrain looking for weak snow below the surface. We found a few spots of weak snow near shallowly buried rocks, but we did not find a continuous layer of weak snow. Forecaster
