Pit location on the edge of a below treeline avalanche path that receives full shade all day this time of year. 1 to 2 inches of surface wet snow on a SSW aspect slope a little below 7,800' at noon. Forecaster

Large surface hoar existed in a few spots near the creek. It was not as big away from the creek and it will likely go through several cycles of destruction and regrowth before any new snow accumulates. ECTX on a N facing slope @ ~7800 ft. An old crack in the snowpack likely from early January. An old crack in the snowpack. This slope likely cracked in early January. The thin rain crust near the surface at 7800 ft. The NE winds have exposed the thin breakable rain crust. A thin layer of soft facetted snow existed below the breakable rain crust. A shallow hand pit showing the thin weak snow/crust/weak snow sandwich on top of stronger more consolidated snow. Surface hoar on a shady N aspect. Lots of debris has accumulated on the snow surface in some tree covered areas. The solid refreeze had just barely started to soften on southerly aspects by 9:30 am. Low clouds on Lake Tahoe indicating the inversion level. Forecaster
