Cracking associated with settlement A ski kick on a steep slope produced a small failure directly below the ski, but no propagation. It is tough to safely photograph enormous cornices, but that is what this photo is trying to convey. Intermittent snow fall during the early afternoon, including an impressive burst of graupel. Snow transport in near treeline NW-N terrain. Very small (1-2'') wind slabs that were reactive in some wind loaded NW-N-NE aspects. ECTN on small wind loaded test slope.  3-4'' wind slab on top of less dense snow, mainly stellars, on top of a previous melt freeze crust. 2'' of wet surface snow existed by 12:15pm.
