These observations document past conditions at a small and variable scale. They are not to be confused with an avalanche forecast. They come from a variety of sources. We can only vouch for the quality of those produced by the SAC forecasters and professional observers.

Snowpack Observation
Silver Peak

Cabin Creek, Deep Creek, or Pole Creek Area
8-10 mm surface hoar at the snowpit location. Surface was widespread at mostly +/-10mm all accross these lower open slopes of Silver Peak. As I ascended higher on the peak blowing snow could be seen near the summit. Surface hoar was present at 5-10 mm up to the ridgetop where wind protected such as in the left side foregroud here with moderate to intense drifting snow just a little further up the ridge. Poking at the edge of this obvious wind slab revealed instability. Large surface hoar on a W aspect that had laid down by midday. Forecaster
