These observations document past conditions at a small and variable scale. They are not to be confused with an avalanche forecast. They come from a variety of sources. We can only vouch for the quality of those produced by the SAC forecasters and professional observers.

Snowpack Observation
Silver Peak

Cabin Creek, Deep Creek, or Pole Creek Area
A ski kick caused the small wind slab to fracture on a NNE slope at ~7300 ft. Some light wind scouring as the winds shifted to the W along the upper ridge of Silver Peak. Cracking in a shallow wind slab above previous ski track. Ski cuts on this below treeline slope only pushed the loose new snow down the slope. Forecaster

Snowpack Observation
Hidden Peak

West Shore Area
Most of the day had more clouds than this but occasional pockets of blue did emerge. Surprisingly little evidence of wind slab were observed. This was the most cohesive new snow I could find on the summit area. Looking north towards Rubicon Peak. Trees on the summit ridge had soft snow sticking to their branches. On a steeper rollover at about 8000 feet there was some sluffing. I heard reports of larger stuffs running longer on more east facing terrain with a firmer crust. Professional Observer

Snowpack Observation
Chickadee Ridge

Mount Rose Area
Less than an inch of new snow had accumulated on Chickadee Ridge by 11 am. Periods of low clouds obscured visibility. Shallowly buried facets still existed below the surface on N aspects, but we did not see any signs of instability associated with them. The south aspects of Slide Mtn. are mostly melted out to bare ground. Forecaster
